Low carbon and
zero carbon schools
Additional investment has been
promised for the next three years that should see carbon emissions from the selected schools reduce by around 60%. These reductions
will be achieved in equal measure by increased energy efficiency and the greater utilisation of renewables.
Labour candidate, Julian Ware-Lane
said: "I welcome the recent announcement by the Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families on low carbon and zero
carbon schools."
"Our aim is for zero carbon
emissions, and this is an important and welcome first step".
Two Castle Point schools building
projects will get extra funding: Castle View (Canvey Island) and The Deanes (Thundersley).
This follows on from the announcement
of the Children's Plan for all schools to be zero carbon by 2016. A Task force is being set up to advise on how this can best
be achieved.
