Labour candidate visits
Castle
View School Oct 12th 2007
The young students
of Castle View School
were hosts to local Labour candidate, Julian Ware-Lane, who paid a visit to the Canvey
Island educational establishment.
Head teacher, Russell
Sullivan, said "we were delighted to welcome Mr Ware-Lane to Castle View as a key member of the local community. He was able
to experience first hand our facilities and staff at an important point in the school's development. Citizenship is obviously
a key component of our curriculum and we welcome the opportunity to have members of the various local political parties to
see Castle View and to speak to our pupils."
Julian Ware-Lane expressed
his delight at what he described as "an excellent school". "I was impressed with the use of facilities bought with the extra
investment from the Government. This is an excellent school with PCs in virtually all classrooms. It is obvious that huge
change and improvements have happened over the last decade".
Julian added that he
was "looking forward to the massive investment through Building Schools for the Future changing the face of education on Canvey Island." He
further stated that: "Excellent results are being achieved by students who will have skills they can use for the benefit of
employers. Additional money being earned by these students will be spent locally and support our local economy. I am so pleased
to see Castle Point students being given every opportunity to do well in life. "
The changing demographics
on Canvey Island have led to the decision
to close Furtherwick Park School, and to rebuild Castle View
School on the Furtherwick
Park School site.
The last school year
(2006/07) saw a record 79% of Castle View pupils go on to further education. They also had their best year ever in key stage
3 results.
Castle View School
currently has around 900 pupils and 57 teaching staff.
