CAVS is important for our community
Labour Parliamentary hopeful
Julian Ware-Lane was recently invited to The Tyrells Centre in Thundersley to see for himself the work done by the Castle
Point Association of Voluntary Services.
Michaela White, Head of Development, explained to
Julian that CAVS is "a voluntary organisation which supports any voluntary or community group within Castle Point". She added:
"we have a wide range of ages in Castle Point which means a diverse range of organisations to support them. My current project
is Uniting The Ages which aims to bring young and old together through the exchange of skills."
Julian was most impressed with the facilities at
The Tyrells Centre, and with the range of community groups supported by CAVS. He said "I believe volunteering is important
for community cohesion, and there is a strong sense of community here in Castle Point. Volunteering is not just working in
a charity shop or pushing a tea trolley – it could be a management role, coaching a team, or driving, for instance."
Funding is always an issue for CAVS. "Both Essex
County Council and Castle Point Borough Council have been very supportive, and long may that continue. CAVS and The Tyrells
Centre provide a well used resource for our community" stated Julian.
CAVS are always on the lookout for volunteers and
Julian Ware-Lane would encourage anyone who may be interested to contact Michaela White on 01268 638416, or visit www.cavscastlepoint.org.uk
