Julian Ware-Lane backs NSPCC calls to make child protection a ‘top priority’
Julian Ware-Lane, the prospective parliamentary candidate for Castle Point has today added his name to the NSPCC’s
campaign calling for child protection to be a priority in the wake of a series of tragic child abuse deaths.
Julian Ware-Lane backed the NSPCC’s new campaign which calls for vital child protection reforms alongside continued
funding of Childline and the NSPCC Helpline.
Signing
up to the NSPCC’s six calls at the Labour Party Conference in Brighton, Julian Ware-Lane said: “Following the
tragic death of Baby Peter (named in August as Peter Connolly), we must ensure that vital child protection reforms take place.
In this difficult economic climate protecting children must remain our priority if we are to prevent more children suffering
from violence, sexual abuse, neglect, and emotional harm, and to support those who have already been abused”
Julian Ware-Lane also highlighted the need for government to ensure that ChildLine continues to receive financial
support to provide a vital, confidential support service for vulnerable children: “Children in Castle Point and elsewhere
must have access to safe confidential space in order to speak out about abuse and get help. ChildLine gives children this
opportunity; we must ensure that government funding for the service is maintained beyond the current cut-off date in 2011”.

has signed up to support the NSPCC’s campaign to protect all children. Julian Ware-Lane‘s support for this campaign
is making a crucial difference to the services available to children and young people in Castle Point, particularly their
support of continued government funding for ChildLine.
