Julian Ware-Lane
backs calls for action on motor neurone disease
Julian Ware-Lane has joined a growing number of Parliamentary candidates calling for national action
to improve the quality of life and achieve dignity in death for people with the devastating condition, motor neurone disease. MND is a fatal illness, which leaves
people unable to walk, talk or feed themselves and kills half of those within 14 months of diagnosis. The
disease progresses rapidly and requires complex and demanding care. Despite this people with MND
often receive fragmented services. Julian
Ware-Lane candidate signed a pledge that forms part of a campaign by the Motor Neurone Disease Association to help improve
care for people with MND. Over eight thousand people, including names from the world of politics,
show business and the general public, have also signed an online petition in support of this campaign. "Health is a key priority for me, in all aspects" said Julian.
"I am proud of my Government's record in this area, but I do not want us to rest on our laurels. Much has been
done, but there is more to do." The charity
believes that a National Strategy will support efforts to achieve more efficient use of funds and reduce the delays impacting
crucial research which is caused by bureaucratic and regulatory obstacles. The MND Association is appealing for people to pledge their support online at www.mnd2010.org and call on the Government to produce a National Strategy for MND.
